Recommendations for lunch breaks and walks around the conference venue at Luisenstraße 37
- Königsplatz
München or Athens? The square Königsplatz—the heart of Munich’s Maxvorstadt quarter, impressing visitors with its neoclassical architecture—is only a few seconds away from our conference venue. You can find a sunny or shady spot to while away the lunch break, or pay a visit to the State Collection of Antiquities or the Glyptothek. https://www.antike-am-koenigsplatz.mwn.de/index.php/en/

- Lenbachhaus
This museum of art—in the immediate vicinity of the conference venue—holds the largest collection of artworks in the world produced by artists of the “Blaue Reiter” group. The permanent collection is complemented by special exhibitions, for example on the work of Rosemary Mayer (1943-2014), and the electronic music project Mouse on Mars in the associated Kunstbau building. The architecture, which is a combination of the historic Franz von Lenbach villa and a modern extension, is worth a visit on its own, as is the eight-metre-high glass and light sculpture “Wirbelwind” by Ólafur Elíasson that welcomes you in the foyer.

- nsdoku Munich
The Munich Documentation Center is just a five minute walk across Königsplatz. In addition to its regular special exhibitions, there is a permanent exhibition entitled “Munich and National Socialism” that explores the origins and rise of National Socialism in Munich, the city's special role in the dictatorship's terror system, and its difficulties in confronting its past since 1945. Free Admission.

- Alter Nordfriedhof
You can find a peaceful corner of the city if you head north along Luisenstraße for 700 metres. The Old Northern Cemetery is now used as a park and is both an important historical site and a green oasis with beautiful trees and numerous benches.

- Kunstareal/ Pinakotheken
Somewhat inconspicuously named, the Kunstareal (Art Quarter), comprises a spectacular number of houses and institutions, all within a radius of less than a kilometer. The Alte Pinakothek (European painting from the 14th to 18th centuries), Neue Pinakothek (currently closed), Pinakothek der Moderne (modern art, design, architecture and graphics), the State Museum of Egyptian Art and the Museum Brandhorst (Cy Twombly in the permanent exhibition, 'Sculpture, Technology, Body since the 1950s' in the special exhibition) are the best-known world-class collections, but there are also a whole series of smaller galleries and other museums to visit.

- Ludwig Maximilian University - LMU Munich
Our conference venue is located approximately two kilometres from the main LMU building. There, the atrium impresses with its architecture in the round arch style, and there are numerous mosaics and statues to discover. The entrance to the White Rose Memorial is also located in this building. An exhibition commemorates the resistance group of the same name and is located in the immediate vicinity of where Hans and Sophie Scholl were arrested in February 1943 (https://www.weisse-rose-stiftung.de/exhibition-the-white-rose/; free admission, see homepage for opening times).
The Geschwister-Scholl-Platz is the centerpiece of the university campus. From there you have a perfect view of one of Munich's four great boulevards: Ludwigstraße leads towards Siegestor and Schwabing to the north and towards Odeonsplatz and the inner city to the south. The Bavarian State Library can be reached quickly from here; a short detour to see its impressive staircase is worthwhile, and you can also consider taking in one of its temporary exhibitions or taking part in one of the guided tours behind the scenes (https://www.bsb-muenchen.de/en/events-and-exhibitions/). The nearest large beer garden is in the
